As the electrification transition accelerates, Magna is leveraging its body and chassis expertise to offer innovative battery housing products. To support Ford's new business, Magna will expand capacity at its St Thomas plant in Canada and build a battery casing plant in Chatham.

The new plant, covering about 16,000 square meters, is expected to support 150 jobs and will produce battery casings for Ford F-150 Lighting. The battery shell is an important structural and safety part of electric vehicles. It is used to cover high-voltage batteries, electrical components, sensors and connectors to protect key components from potential external impact, high temperature and water seepage.
